CAUTION: Political rant ahead!!!

Ok, I'm on my soapbox and I've gotta say this. It may not be a popular thing to do but I really don't give 2 shits!
Here goes.....
I'm sick and fucking tired of ppl saying they support our troops but are against the war in Iraq!
Do these ppl think our troops, the brave men and women who make up our military, are ignorant or just plain stupid or too simple minded to know what they did when they enlisted? We don't have a draft anymore. We have an all volunteer Armed Forces these days. Men and women enlist of their own free will because of a desire to defend our homeland of any and all terrorist be they foreign or domistic! They defend our freedoms that we so casually take for granted sometimes!! The men and women who enlisted, support their Commander and Chief and his decision to engage in this war or they WOULDN'T HAVE JOINED!!! So if our Army,Navy,Air Force,Coast Guard,National Guard and Marines support this war by possibly giving the ultimate sacrafice of their lives, litterally, then how can people say they support the troops but not the war???????? They go hand in hand.

Seriously! I'm dumbfounded over this and it makes me so angry whenever I hear it. If I hear it one more time I will not be responsible for the overload that comes out of my mouth.

Agree or disagree........it doesn't matter. My views will never change.

Lovee spent 23 years serving with the U.S. Marines. Proudly! My brother made the ultimate sacrifice in Viet Nam with his life ! Hardly anyone supported the troops back then and most of them were drafted!! They had no choice...except to flee their country and go to Canada to avoid prosecution.

And what about Korea? How long have we had men and women stationed in S. Korea? Defending them against a communist takeover by N. Korea? How long? Since the fucking Korean war that's how long!! Does anyone say anything about that???? No, because we aren't losing troops now. But we did. A long time ago. But we're still there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We lose men and women in every war or conflict. It's not something to take lightly, obviously, but please don't insult these brave men and women by insulting their intelligence.

Don't pee on my shoe and tell me it's raining. I won't buy it!

My dad was spit on for years for being a draftee, but he was going to go and sign up freely had he been given the chance. I'm proud of him for that. He lost his whole platoon in Vietnam - something he will never get over. For many, many years, as I'm sure you know with Lovee, my dad never got any respect being a Vietnam veteran.

I think Veterans rule! What would our country be without these men and women? I have always supported our troops. Always.

Well said, tt.

My Bro enlisted and went over for Desert Storm. He came back a changed man. I'm not sure if it was in more of a good way than a bad way. I'm not even sure he enlisted to fight for our country or because he knew his inevitable fate if he didn't join some sort of organization to kick his slack ass effed up self into shape. It did. Sorta.

I hear what you're sayin and I promise not to pee on your shoe.

FMD: Thanks for visiting! I too get riled up these days. It just doesn't make any sense to me sometimes. Are we supposed to just roll over and play dead and let someone else take over our country? Hell no!
Being a marine's wife for 23 years instilled a hell of a lot of pride in me and I'm damn proud of it!
Semper Fi!!!

I hate that argument and it's very insulting to the MANY men and women of the military who do NOT like the Iraq war and did NOT join in support of it! Of COURSE it's possible to support the troops and not support a particular war. I think the Iraq war was a huge mistake and most people I know did NOT join the military in a gung-ho "go Bush, yay war!" mindset. I also hate this argument because it leaves no room for someone to ever criticize a government for using the military inappropriately without also being accused of troop-hating. If, say, a relative of yours works in a job with a crappy boss who does dumb stuff, saying you support your family member but not their boss's actions makes sense right? Same with us troops and Bush/war. No one would ever say "Well I support what their boss is doing because my relative works there!"

FYI: I enlisted BEFORE the Iraq war even began so your entire argument about us joining in support of it is beyond ridiculous.

We have NO SAY in what the CIC tells us to do. It has nothing to do with our intelligence.

Frankly, saying that supporting a war is inseparable from supporting the troops scares me. Because it means that people won't argue against a stupid war that unneccesarily kills us because you're too busy "supporting the troops".

You hit a sore spot there!
There are a lot of people who enlisted before the war started and now see what a big mistake it was. Don't compare Korea with this war, Korea was a UN sanctioned Police action Iraq was not. Your President Lied to the UN, Lied to Congress, Lied to the armed forces and lied to the citizens of America.
If that was done by anyone else they would surely be impeached but he has done such a good job at convincing people that this is a just war and that Iraq will be a beacon of democracy and Christian values (sorry I meant American values) that any opposition to it is seen as treason. In a true democracy you can express your opposition to what the government does without fear of retaliation and that is why congress wants to bring our troops home, and guess who voted for that congress real people not a Judge.
Clinton almost got himself almost impeached for sexual misconduct and denying it at first. You think this president does not deserve to be impeached for sending thousands of young soldiers to their death and crippling thousands more. There were no WMD, there was no Al-Qaeda, and containment was working Saddam's own people were so fed up with him after almost a decade of war that they were going to get rid of him themselves.
I guess Iran is next, North Korea after that, how about Venezuela they're commies there you know? Russia too and let us not forget China?
I have the highest regard for the military but I do not support this war it is a wrong war for the wrong reasons Its the oil, nothing else

I would not respect someone who came back from a war who torched villages, raped women, shot kids and tortured adults. I would not respect someone who Napalmed whole valleys whether there was an enemy or not. I would not respect someone who used Agent orange to clear the jungle and made generations of people be born with deformities. I would not respect someone who drugged their soldiers so that they would be braver. I would not respect someone who shot a Quaker CO because his religion would not let him fight. That is the reality of the Vietnam war, it is ugly and I am sure there were a lot of people who did not do those horrible things and I feel sorrow that some people that came back were not treated well, but at least we learned the truth about the people who did evil because there was an independent press there that told us what was really happening. I don't support the Vets that did horrible things in Vietnam. I do support the good vets
and I never supported the war I know a lot of Americans that came here to Canada because they did not agree with the war. Our ancestors supported a lot of African Americans that fled your land to be free, it is simply the right thing to do just like we supported you on 9/11 it was the right thing to do and we helped you in New Orleans. But is the war really the right thing to do? I think the price is way too high
