When I came home from the parents today he had already got this done. I didn't know he was trying to figure something out to help me with my dangerous laundry chores. He cut a bungee cord in half and stapled the rope to the cupboard above the wahser ( which, btw is the reason the lid falls down) and the end hooks nicely under the lip. viola'!!
What a guy!
